Cleaning the laBOREtory and setting up my computer speakers tonight

My first college roommate made me these speakers for my computer. They went to a corner desk and are designed so you sit in front of the four 10" woofers. Let me tell you, an iMac sounds REALLY good with these speakers.

I've been lugging the things around since college and finally set them up in the basement – the first time they've been running since I moved to Illinois, nearly 4 years.

I was going to set them up in the garage, hanging the woofers from the rafter. They sound so good, it would be a waste, so then I was going to hang the woofers from the ceiling joists, sticking out of the suspended ceiling a few inches. It would have looked odd, for sure! Glad I didn't do that, as the upstairs can feel them even though they are pretty well isolated from the floor under the drafting table.

The big speakers under my drafting table are the woofers for the matched speakers to the either side.

These are actually 4 ohm car speakers set up in series to match the 8 ohm impedance that the home stereo is expecting.

This is a midrange and tweeter to go with the big woofers

  1. I just wired in some speakers I rescued from a rear projection TV. They look really funky, just perfect for the laBOREtory. They sound good enough to be rears.
I set the sweet spot balance for standing at the drafting table.
    Sounds pretty gosh darn good!
