Happy birthday

I can't beleive it, I missed my truck's birthday!

My truck turned 1 year old this last Monday, April 14, well, I had it for one year this monday. I think it came off the production line 08-08-06.

I have over 30,000 miles on it. Isn't that terrible?

I need to get it washed something fierce! I think that will by my birthday present to my truck this year, a good, sound cleaning. It got trashed in the move, and I haven't had a chance to give it a good clening since.

Happy belated birthday!

Weekend Recap

Last week, Katie saw her first real snow fall. She had only ever seen it snow once, in Texas. It snowed 2-3 inches. She basically spent ALL day outside watching it snow. When I came home, I showed her how to pack snowballs, make a snowman. She liked it. Next day, FLU. Poor thing.

Friday night, I cleaned my truck out. It is trashed. The rocks, dirt, fishpoo, plants, etc. from the fish tank sloshed up on to everything! I spent 2 hours cleaning it. I had a 5 gallon jug of water leak and completely fill the back seats with water. I picked up at least 3 cups of aquarium gravel by hand and vacumned up another 2 cups. What a mess.

Saturday morning, we pile into the VERY SMELLY Escape. I put plastic down on the back seats and blankets so we don't get wet. Drive to Barraboo WI, and pick up my sister. She wasn't feeling well either. So now I am off to my parents with 2 very sick women that are likely to heave and improve the smell in my truck.

We arrive at my folks apartment, and walk right in un-announced to my mom. She was SO surprised! We caught up for a while, then wandered off for supper. We went to a resturaunt, and mom walks in first, there is my Aunt's Laruie and Therese, and some neighbors. She was again surprised! We told stories, ate some cake, and all decided that the chicken was THE BOMB!

I visited the house. So sad. I picked up a book I had given mom for Christmas one year off the floor and broght it back for her. There is just so much stuff that is burned, laying on the floor, etc. It's overwhelming.

Yesterday, I droped Katie off at the Milwaukee airport. They let her on the plane there. Bummer! I went to dinner at a Thai resteraunt with a friend from collage just north of the airport while Katie was waiting to board. I wasn't taking any chances with leaving and having to come back to pick her back up at the airport.

Missing Mirror

Don't you just hate it when a large, parked semi trailer jumps out and bites your truck?
Last week (man, has it been that long ago already?) I was looking left and turning right, and drove right into the trailer. I blew the mirror right off the truck. Bummer! Luckily I didn't do any other damage to the truck.

23000 miles on the truck.

Well, I rolled over 23000 on my Escape yesterday. And I had my first problem with the new truck, and of course, the one thing that goes wrong isn't covered!

My new truck wouldn't start yesterday. I had to call Katie to come give me a jump start so I could get to work. The lights where fairly bright, but there was no power for the starter. I grabbed my multi-meter, and the voltage was 11.5 volts. When I opened the doors, the voltage dropped down to 10.5 with the door lights on.

Last night I got one of them hydrometer battery testers that measures the specific gravity of the battery acid. Sure enough, 1 cell was completely dead.

1 new battery later, I have to turn the truck on, let it warm up, let it idle for a minute, turn on the AC, let it idle some more, and it's going to drive funny for a while while the transmission re-calibrates itself. Gotta love technology!

Gas Milage for the Truck

Well, I did it this morning. I keyed in every gas receipt I have for the truck. It looks like I am only missing one.

View the Spreadsheet

I have some interesting stats from this. I have spent over $2600 for nearly 1000 gallons of gas. I am averaging 22 MPG.

The cheapest I have paid for gas is $2.54 and the most expensive is $3.15.

My goal for this is to see if I can correlate better gas mileage to certain gas stations. Part of doing this will be to import driving habbits from my GPS data logger. Another project for another day.
