Midnight Stroll on the Beach

I was talking to a friend tonight online about going for walks after dark and I came to realize that I didn’t have any night beach shots. I had laundry I was waiting on before I could go to bed, so I figured I would take a stroll while it was drying.

Tonight it wasn’t raining, and it was a full moon earlier this week. Perfect weather for some night photography. I was really tempted to grab my film SLR, but I don’t think I want to wander around town at night by myself with a $1000 worth of camera gear. The baby digital it is! Batteries where dead, grabbed the other batteries off the charger, those are dead too. I guess I wore my batteries out. I don’t know why, I have only taken something like 3500 photos with them.

A few guys where hanging out at the park and tried to bum a cigarette off of me. One of these days I am going to try to bum a doller off of somebody that asks me for a smoke. “No, sorry dude, I haven’t had a smoke in days. Do you got a dollar for a bus fare?” To bad I could never try it. Oh well, if any of you try it, let me know how it turns out.

Well, it is well into tomarrow already and my laundry is done. So I best be to bed!

Before the rain

I got a little stir crazy today. I have been working pretty hard on a website for a friend and my legs got all itchy for a walk. I decided to go east, well as far as I can walk. I checked the weather before I left, figured that I probably had about 30-40 minutes before some “red” was going to be here. Off I went.

I had walked to the beach once, but that was a LONG trip as I had gone all the way down to Beach Place. I wanted to see if I had easy beach access at the end of Oakland Park Blvd. Guess what, I do! There is an itty bitty little park, just big enough for a person to be sleeping on the only park bench. They probably just had city property for the road going all the way in into the ocean, and made a park out of the last 50 feet.

There where a couple of kids wake boarding. One guy was fussing with a metal detector. A few people where off swimming. Nothing too exciting. I wandered a ways to the south until I noticed that the rain had crossed the beach and was obscuring a building. I turned around and started home.

Wouldn’t you know it, I made it almost all the way home and it started to rain. I was less then 1/6th of a mile from my door when it started to poor. I stopped under a tree and waited 10 or 15 minutes untill it was dripping more from the tree then it was raining. By this time the rain had slowed to a sprinkle. I got about half way and it started to poor again. Oh well, so much from trying to not get soaked to the skin. At least the rain was warm. I don’t mind getting wet, it’s the going into the AC afterwards that bothers me.

Google Earth, Picassa, Geotagging, and old Chihuly Photos

OK, I love GOOGLE products THIIIIIIS much.

I was playing with the latest version of Picasa and Google Earth tonight. The “really cool feature from google”^TM that I was trying to figure out is image geotagging. Basically Geotaggin is labeling a photo so you can place it on a map. See Wikipedia, Geotagging.

The whole process is to select a photo in Picasa, choose the geocoding option in some obscure, buried menu, and find where you took the photo in Google Earth. I then created a Google Earth file that allows you to view the images from within Google Earth. Way Cool!

I also exported a web photo album to my webserver. I tweaked the caption to include a link to the file.

It’s all a work in process, so if the links to the stuff I am talking about today are gone next week, look around, they probably found a better long-term home.

Finally some flipp’n rain!

Hey Mr. Weatherman, if your gonna shut down half of a bloody State over a little bit of bad weather, at least let it RAIN the first day. The anticipation is driving me NUTS! I have done more walking in the sunshine today then I have in a good long time. What’s the big idea, waiting until night before you send the rain. I can’t watch it pour out in the dark! Your taking all the fun out of the bad weather Mr. Weatherman.

Ok, enough complaining.

I have today and tomarrow off. Well, I did work a little today. I walked over to the office to close the last of the hurricane shutters that we left up so the cleaning crew could do their job. It was rolled down when I got there, so maybe the cleaners did it? The other thing I did was add the words “and Wednesday, August 30, 2006” to the website. I hope this means I get paid for a full day of work!

It looks like Cuba took all the fight out of Ernesto. I am glad I am not on the north east coast of Cuba right now.

Crazy couple of weeks!

The last couple of weeks has been crazy! My apologizies to those who read this (that’s just you mom) for not posting recently.

I finially got myself something frivolious. My trusty PDA & cell phone is finally dieing – the screen is going bad. So I am replacing it 1 piece at a time. The PDA is being replaced with a Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. I bought one off of eBay the Thursdy before the Dave concert. I absolutly love it, it has no contact management software, it’s very slow, and doesn’t have enough memory, but it’s the coolest thing ever! I am actually in bed right now pecking this post out.

I have no idea where the time goes. I haven’t even gotten much of a chance to play with the Nokia much. I have been absolutely exhausted after work. I have been going to bed early. Nothing has gotten done. I haven’t even been playing UO during the week.

I had 2 friend’s birthdays to go to. Last weekend 7 of went out to Taverna Opa for dinner, which was a lot of fun if not too loud. Gabby and I went to Kyojin’s for sushi again, it was her turn this time which was good otherwise I couldn’t have gone as the birthdays and weekend soaked up all my mad-money. Somewhere in there was a PHP meetup, and maybe a Webdesign meetup, or was that the week before? I don’t remember.

Tonight was Supper Club night. I made the Cheesey Potato Soup that I had made for one of the birthday parties. Tonights came out better, I didn’t curdle the milk this time. Everyone’s dishes were good tonight. There was even Mt. Dew to drink!

I was invited to go out to a club by a friend with some of her friends tonight, but I guess it would have been $20 for me to get in. I could have scratched that together, but that is too much money to go somewhere that is too loud for me. I just have a hard time enjoying myself when I am shut off from everyone because of the noise.

I ended up stopping by a place called Pat’s Place which was a few blocks from where dinner was tonight. A gal from work sings there regularly and had asked several times if people from work wanted to stop in.

Maybe it’s because I am doing stuff and having fun that the time is flying? Who’d a thunk that!
